A North Carolina Family Adventure

Hi Jason! My family and I did a 10-day hiking, climbing, camping, and canoeing trip July 15-24. We camped, hiked, and climbed at Pilot Mountain State Park north of Winston-Salem Thurs.-Sun. (and took a day trip to Hanging Rock State Park for some hiking in the rain). Then we headed to my parents’ cabin off Howard’s Creek Road to stay for six nights. Trent, our 9-year-old, is sporting his harness from FS (last year’s purchase) and his new 5-10s (this year’s purchase) in some pictures; in another, he has on the new life vest from FS. I got a harness and my husband got more climbing supplies.

In Boone, we climbed at Holloway Mountain for two 9-hour+ days. Trent didn’t want to leave the rock! We met and climbed with John and Cathey Wilder on Friday, 7/23. Small world: George and John had mutual climbing buddies. John (right) and Trent (on left) are shown in a picture. My husband has been climbing for about 25 years all over the place; Trent has been a few times in Virginia, but he practices a lot on our climbing walls in our garage. I’m a newbie (other than the garage wall), but I held my own! I’m hooked! Other days we canoed and hiked Hebron Colony Rocks and other trails. I’m attaching pictures of my family with various FS gear.

I think Trent and I are returning to the area next week before school starts. If so, we’ll be in the Boone store!
