I was able to spend a few hours again today on Grandfather Mountain. It was around 40 degrees in the parking area and breezy when I arrived. By the time I got to Calloway Peak the wind had subsided a bit, and the sun was blazing bright. A good deal of rime ice had formed on the trees that were above about 5,000 feet, and on the way up, ice-coated branches dropped ice bombs on me as they warmed up (kind of fun actually…never know when the next one was coming down). Fresh cool air, a great breeze, clear skies and bright sun = another fantastic day on Grandfather Mountain. I was able to wear my Patagonia Nano Pullover for the first time on the trail today, and man, what an awesome piece of gear. I know it will be a go-to piece from now on, as light as it is.
Until next time…enjoy some photos!
