Watch this short video of Donna Lisenby testing two Appalachian streams below an surface coal mine site in Eastern Kentucky. One stream runs clear and the other is turbid, murky, and sediment-choked. The upcoming Appalachian Water Watch program will empower and equip the citizens of Central Appalachia to test the public waters below coal mines. This citizen enforcement of the Clean Water Act is vital due to the incompetence of state regulatory agencies and mine testing facilities when it comes to surface mining discharge reporting.
