Coinciding with National Trails Day, Saturday, June 5th was Land Trust Day. Select local business from Boone, Beech Mountain and West Jefferson partnered with Blue Ridge Conservancy (BRC), pledging a percentage of their day’s sales to the land trust.
“We had more business partners than ever this year, making it one of our most successful Land Trust Days ever,” explained Zachary Lesch-Huie, BRC’s Communications Director.
This year’s Land Trust Day business partners in Boone were Mast General Store, Footsloggers, Magic Cycles, Black Cat Burrito, Our Daily Bread, Rock Dimensions, Green Mother Goods, Melanie’s, Boone Take-Out Express, Sunrise Grill and Pepper’s. In West Jefferson, Frasers Restaurant and ‘Tis the Season were Land Trust Day partners. And on Beech Mountain, Fred’s General Mercantile pledged support from Land Trust Day’s sales.
Last year, Land Trust Day business partners helped raise nearly $10,000 for BRC’s conservation work. This year, thanks to the generous support of local businesses, BRC expects to meet and probably exceed that amount.
“We are very excited about the local business support we received this year,” said Walter Clark, BRC’s Executive Director. “These businesses clearly value the protection of our regions’ natural, rural character. We’re very thankful for their support.”
Numerous local land trusts and businesses across the state participated in this year’s Land Trust Day, an annual event that raises awareness and funds for conservation efforts that protect working farms, healthy forests, clean drinking water, and open spaces.
Blue Ridge Conservancy is a local, non-profit land trust with offices in Boone and West Jefferson. Dedicated to protecting the natural and cultural resources of Appalachia by conserving land with significant agricultural, ecological, cultural, recreational or scenic value in northwestern North Carolina, BRC has protected more than 15,000 acres of land.
