The Crash Pad brings climbers’ hostel to Chattanooga

The Crash Pad logoChattanooga has long been an outdoor adventure paradise.  There has always been a catch, though:  affordable, convenient accommodations have been hard to find.  That is about to change, as The Crash Pad breaks ground in downtown Chattanooga.

Partners Max Poppel and Dan Rose are building The Crash Pad – An Uncommon Hostel with the goal of serving the outdoor community in Chattanooga.  I recently spoke with Max and Dan and learned about the venture.  In opening The Crash Pad, they hope to “further establish Chattanooga as an ultimate outdoor destination by providing a base camp and community hub for adventurous travelers.”  Max and Dan believe The Crash Pad will combine the “affordability and camaraderie of a hostel with the charm and cleanliness of a boutique hotel.”

Many hostels offer camaraderie for travelers as a trade-off for comfort and amenities.  The Crash Pad will consist of new energy-efficient construction, designed to maximize comfort and minimize impact on the environment and fellow travelers.  Dealing with thin walls and squeaky mattresses is no longer required to save a few dollars.  The Crash Pad’s list of amenities more closely resembles a bed and breakfast than a hostel.  Max and Dan plan to offer their guests free WiFi, free breakfast and coffee (Roger’s anyone?), spotless bathrooms and fresh linens among other necessities.  Though private parking is included, The Crash Pad will be within walking distance of restaurants and nightlife in downtown Chattanooga.  For the more private guest or traveling couple, private rooms with queen beds will be available.

Click over to The Crash Pad’s website to keep an eye on the progress.  The Crash Pad opens in early 2011, so plan a trip to Chattanooga and T-Wall for the spring.  Don’t bother sleeping in your car.
